The DeLand Electric Light, Power and Ice Company

A 1924 photograph of the employees of the DeLand Electric Light, Power & Ice Company posing outside the electric power plant building in DeLand, Florida. The building was located west of North Spring Garden Avenue at the railroad tracks. The DeLand Electric Power and Ice Company, also known as DELPICO, has a rich history dating back to 1887. It was built by John B. Stetson, a well-known hat manufacturer and philanthropist, who partly owned the company.

DELPICO was equipped with two 25kw generators and one 50kw generator, and it was located on North Spring Garden Avenue at the railroad tracks. What's remarkable is that DeLand was the first city in Florida to have electricity, making DELPICO a pioneering facility in the state's energy history.

Early photographs of the generator room and furnace used to power the generators at the DeLand Electric Power & Ice Company.
