1870 The Brock House, Enterprise, Florida

"Social events were often made possible by using steamboats to get to the scenes of such events. The Brock House at Enterprise had a masked ball on New Year's Eve 1870. Hosted by the manager, Mr. Richards, the revelers included the Goddess of Liberty, a wild Irishman, Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother, Mary, Queen of Scots, an Indian Chief, and Brigham Young with six wives. Also present were Pocahantas, Rip Van Winkle, Joan of Arc, as well as several monks, nuns, cavaliers, brigands and Horace Greeley. All were brought to the Brock House by steamboat."
